SLB’s OneSubsea™ joint venture has secured a groundbreaking contract with Petrobras to deliver two cutting-edge subsea raw seawater injection (RWI) systems. These systems will enhance production efficiency at the prolific Búzios field, reducing greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions per barrel of oil while increasing recovery rates for Petrobras’ FPSOs P-74 and P-75.
A Smarter Approach to Reservoir Pressurization
The RWI systems are designed to address bottlenecks in the water injection capacities of floating production storage and offloading (FPSO) vessels. By deploying the systems directly on the seabed, SLB offers a more efficient alternative to traditional topside injection systems. This innovation not only frees up valuable topside space but also reduces fuel consumption and power requirements, enabling significant cost savings and environmental benefits.
Mads Hjelmeland, CEO of SLB OneSubsea, highlighted the importance of the project, stating, “Subsea raw seawater injection is a well-proven application with a strong business case. It’s a win-win for Petrobras, enhancing recovery and optimizing FPSO performance while minimizing environmental impact. This contract also strengthens our local content presence in Brazil, supported by our advanced manufacturing plants and subsea service facilities.”
Comprehensive Subsea Solutions for Long-Term Value
SLB OneSubsea will provide a complete package for each system, including subsea seawater injection pumps, umbilical systems, and topside variable speed drives. These systems will support Petrobras’ FPSOs P-74 and P-75 in achieving higher production capacities.
As part of the project, SLB will enhance its multidisciplinary team in Brazil, covering field development, system engineering, and life-of-field support. AI-enabled Subsea Live™ services will also play a key role, offering continuous condition monitoring and expert technical support to ensure optimal system performance throughout the project’s lifecycle.
This collaboration marks a significant milestone in the adoption of advanced subsea technologies for secondary recovery in deepwater basins, setting the stage for future innovation and sustainability in oil production.
